"Which Report Shows Me…?" — Finding the Right Report

A goal-first index that maps common questions to the report that answers them.

AccountEdge has dozens of reports, and the fastest way to find the one you need isn't always obvious from the report name. This page maps the questions you're actually asking to the report that answers them.

Money people owe me

"What do my customers owe me right now?" → Receivables Reconciliation Summary (Reports › Index to Reports › Accounts › Exceptions). Shows each customer's balance and total outstanding.

"Which invoices are overdue?" → Aged Receivables report (Reports › Index to Reports › Sales). Groups open invoices by how many days past due.

"What has a specific customer been billed and paid?" → Customer Ledger or Transaction Journal filtered by card (Reports › Index to Reports › Sales).

Money I owe

"What do I owe my vendors?" → Payables Reconciliation Summary (Reports › Index to Reports › Accounts › Exceptions).

"Which bills are coming due?" → Aged Payables report (Reports › Index to Reports › Purchases).

"What did I pay a specific vendor?" → Vendor Ledger or Transaction Journal filtered by card (Reports › Index to Reports › Purchases).

How my business is doing

"Am I making money?" → Standard Profit & Loss (Reports › Index to Reports › Accounts › Profit and Loss). Shows income minus expenses for a period.

"What do I own and owe overall?" → Standard Balance Sheet (Reports › Index to Reports › Accounts › Balance Sheet).

"How does this year compare to last year?" → Profit & Loss Last Year Analysis or Balance Sheet Last Year Analysis (Reports › Index to Reports › Accounts).

"Am I on budget?" → Profit & Loss Budget Analysis (Reports › Index to Reports › Accounts › Profit and Loss).

"Where is my cash going?" → Statement of Cash Flows (Reports › Index to Reports › Banking).

Checking my work

"Do my books balance?" → Trial Balance Summary (Reports › Index to Reports › Accounts › General Ledger Trial Balance). Shows total debits vs. credits — they should match.

"Does my bank account match AccountEdge?" → Reconciliation Report (Reports › Index to Reports › Banking). Shows cleared and uncleared transactions against your bank statement.

"Are my receivables/payables in balance?" → Receivables or Payables Reconciliation report under Exceptions. If out of balance, the Exception detail tells you which transactions caused it.

"Does my inventory value match the linked account?" → Inventory Value Reconciliation (Reports › Index to Reports › Accounts › Exceptions).

Day-to-day lookups

"What went through my bank account this month?" → Bank Register (Reports › Index to Reports › Banking).

"What did I enter today?" → Session Report. Shows every transaction recorded in the current session. You can also set AccountEdge to prompt you for this report when you close the program (Setup › Preferences › Security › Prompt for a Session Report When Closing).

"Who changed what in my file?" → Audit Trail report (Reports › Index to Reports › Accounts › Audit Trail). Requires Audit Trail Tracking to be enabled in Preferences.

Jobs and projects

"Is this job profitable?" → Job Profit & Loss or Job Budget Analysis (Reports › Index to Reports › Accounts › Jobs).

"What transactions are coded to a job?" → Job Transactions report (Reports › Index to Reports › Accounts › Jobs).

"What expenses can I bill back to the client?" → Reimbursable Expenses report (Reports › Index to Reports › Accounts › Jobs).

Payroll

"What did I pay my employees this period?" → Payroll Earnings report (Reports › Index to Reports › Payroll).

"What taxes do I owe?" → Tax Liabilities report or Quarterly Tax report (Reports › Index to Reports › Payroll).

Tax

"How much sales tax did I collect and owe?" → Sales Tax Summary or Sales Tax Detail (Reports › Index to Reports › Accounts).

"GST/PST collected and owing?" (Canada) → GST & PST Reports (Reports › Index to Reports › Payroll).

Tips

Most reports can be filtered by date range, account, card, and source journal. If you're looking for something specific within a large report, the Wildcards feature lets you filter by partial account numbers or card IDs.
