AccountEdge Unexpectedly Quit

If AccountEdge quits as soon as you launch it with the message that "AccountEdge Quit Unexpectedly" this can be resolved by deleting a specific file.

This will often happen because you have had hardware replaced or you've migrated to a new machine.

To resolve this issue:

  1. Open Finder
  2. Click Go > Go To Folder from menu bar at the very top of the screen
  3. Enter ~/Library/Preferences
  4. Delete any AccountEdge files that end in .plist (ex: AccountedgeneLicenseUS29.plist)

After deleting this file the software should open and will ask you to Register.

File Name/Path Too Long (Path Component Too Long)

When attempting to open a company file (most often after upgrading) you may receive the message "UNABLE TO OPEN FILE; PATH COMPONENT IS TOO LONG. each path component to the file is limited to 31 characters" or "Unable to open file; component is too long. Each path component to the file is limited to 31 characters."

This can happen if the file name is long or the entire path to the file (ie: Macintosh HD/Users/User Name/Documents/This is a Really Long FolderName/This is a Really Long File Name.myo) is too long.

This can be resolved by shortening the length of the file name as well as the length of the entire path (ie: /Macintosh HD/Users/User NameDocuments/AccountEdge Pro 2016 US/My File.myo).

After Logging into File Command Center Doesn't Appear

If, after choosing login from the sign-on screen the command center does not appear, this indicates an issue with the hard drive file name(especially if there are special or non-English characters in name) that can often be resolved by renaming the hard drive to the standard Macintosh HD.

To rename a disk (hard drive) in Mac OS X:

  1. Open Finder
  2. Choose Go > Computer form the menu bar at the top of the screen
  3. Select the disk to be renamed
  4. Choose File > Get Info from the menu bar at the top of the screen
  5. Expand the Name section
  6. Change the name to Macintosh HD
  7. Press Tab once done, so that the change takes effect
  8. Close the Get Info window

Not an AccountEdge Company File

When attempting to open your company file on the Mac, you may on occasion, get the message that the file you are attempting to open is not an AccountEdge company file. First - confirm that you are opening the file with the correct version of the software. If you attempt to open a file that has been upgraded to work with AccountEdge 2015 and you attempt to open it with AccountEdge 2014 you will receive this message.

If this is not the issue, you can resolve this anomaly by:

  • You can rename the company file
  • Make sure the company file name isn't more than 24 characters long
  • Make sure path to the company file isn't excessively long (more than 128 characters)
  • You can stop and restart FileConnect if working with AccountEdge Network Edition (Go to the top menu bar and select the Apple icon > System Preferences > AccountEdge)
  • You can reboot the machine

Error Creating a New Company File

When creating a new company file it's possible to receive an error due to the location the file is being saved to or the name of the company file.

Example Error Message: Error -255 in DMCreateMYOBDat

This issue can be resolved by either changing the name of the company file (shortening it) or by changing the location the file is being saved to.

As a general recommendation saving to the Desktop directly can resolve this error.

As a final note, this same sort of error can be caused because of the naming of the Hard Drive. If you have special characters in the hard drive name (i.e.: !@#$%) these should be removed. If you are using a Mac you should rename the hard drive to Macintosh HD.
