Possible AccountEdge Pro/Network Edition Crash Scenarios for Mac

This article is intended to go over the various situations where AccountEdge versions for Mac desktop (AccountEdge Pro for Mac and AccountEdge Network Edition for Mac) could crash, and the various solutions available.

Upon startup AccountEdge does not open at all

1. Ensure you are running a compatible & supported macOS version. Check our system requirements page here: https://www.accountedge.com/system-requirements/

2. Check to see if you have any Anti-Virus programs running – if you do, fully close it (where it no longer shows in the task bar at the top right of your screen & on the Activity Monitor) Open Activity Monitor by clicking on the spotlight magnifying glass (top right corner of screen next to the time) > Type “Activity Monitor” > Browse through this list of applications and make sure your AV is not running > You can try closing it from here but some AV’s are built to always run in the background, so it will just re-open it self unless you fully close it. You need to open your AV software and close it from within. Check your AV support on how to accomplish this.

3. Check your app permissions by clicking the Apple logo (top left corner of screen) > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access - and make sure that AE Pro/NE is checked like the image below. NOTE* If you dont see AE Pro/NE, click the little plus at the bottom left to add it > a finder window will pop up asking you which app you want to add to this screen > navigate to your Applications folder > select AE Pro > click Open at the bottom right corner.

4. Make sure your mac account is an admin Account with full read+write permissions. 5. Perform a reinstall of AE/NE: https://accountedge.helpjuice.com/general/uninstalling-and-reinstalling-accountedge?from_search=171565280

AE crashes when saving as PDF or Printing Forms or Reports

1. Ensure that your AccountEdge is fully updated by clicking AccountEdge Pro/NE (top left on toolbar) > Check for Product Updates. If there is an update pop up, go ahead & install it.

2. You can reset your report’s format back to default. Navigate to Reports (top toolbar of AE) > Index to Reports > Double click on your report to bring up the customization window > Click Format on the bottom > Click Default on the bottom. Try printing/saving your Report again.

3. (Toggle AE Print Driver on/off) - Check to make sure your AE Print Driver is turned on by going to Setup > Preferences > Reports & Forms tab > “I Use the AE Print Driver”. If this is checked and AccountEdge still crashes during your task, please uncheck it and try performing the action again. If it still crashes with the AE Print Driver unchecked in preferences, go ahead and check it again (turn it on) and try printing one more time. If it crashes again, move on to step 2.

4. If you’re printing reports and AE is crashing, ensure that you’re running the latest version of AccountEdge by clicking on AccountEdge Pro/NE (top left of screen) > Check for Updates – if you see an update pop up, go ahead and install it. You can try printing the report again or move on to try resetting the report format back to default by going to File (top toolbar of AE) > Default Fonts > Reports > Click on the Default button at the bottom – try printing reports again.

5. If AccountEdge is crashing when printing Custom Forms, please try using the sample AE Plain paper form for Invoices or the 960L Sample check. - To select the AE Plain paper invoice to print, first open the invoice > click Print (bottom of invoice) > Select another form.. > Choose the AE Plain Paper - To select the 960L for checks, go to Banking > Print Checks > Advanced Filters > Select the 960L at the bottom > click OK > select a check and print.

6. Open the Sample Widgets file to see if it crashes in there. If it crashes in Widgets, its most likely an Application-level issue. To open Widgets, first close AE and re-open to AE the Welcome Window (before opening your file) > Click on Sample Company > Try performing the same action in this sample company as you were in your company file. If it still crashes in Widgets, perform a reinstall of AccountEdge. If it doesn’t crash, move on to step 4. AE crashes during a backup (termination or no error at all)

1. Ensure that your AccountEdge is fully updated by clicking AccountEdge Pro/NE (top left on toolbar) > Check for Product Updates. If there is an update pop up, go ahead & install it.

2. Try backing up again locally (to a non dropbox, non icloud or cloud synced location) somewhere like your desktop or Applications folder (can create a test folder within Applications then backup into the test folder)

3. If it still crashes, check your permissions by clicking the Apple logo (top left corner of screen) > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access - and make sure that AE Pro/NE is checked like the image below. NOTE* If you dont see AE Pro, click the little plus at the bottom to add it > a finder window will pop up asking you which app you want to add to this screen > navigate to your Applications folder > select AE Pro > click Open at the bottom right corner.

A good final measure would be to restart your mac and try a fresh backup to a local (non cloud location)

AE terminates with Termination 1212

1. Ensure that your AccountEdge is fully updated by clicking AccountEdge Pro/NE (top left on toolbar) > Check for Product Updates. If there is an update pop up, go ahead & install it.

2. Optimize the company file - https://accountedge.helpjuice.com/general/optimization-assistant?from_search=171565101

3. Make a copy of your file and rename the copy to something like “AE file” then open that copy of the file. Can also optimize the copy again. NE users – Navigate to your file location, must be on the Host machine to do this: Path – Click Go (top mac toolbar) > Computer > Mac HD > Library > Application Support > AccountEdge NE > Databases > copy your file here and rename it leaving it in the same folder (you can drag this file onto your desktop to optimize it and once finished, put it back into databases) > Open NE and click Browse > Open the renamed copy. Pro users – To find the location of your company file, first log into it as normal then click the Accounts Module > Company Data Auditor > Click on the link that shows “File location” > It will open up a Finder window showing/highlighting your .myo file that you work in > Make a copy of this and rename the copy to “AE File” > Close AccountEdge and re-open > Click Browse and navigate to the same spot where you just renamed the copy and open it.

AE crashes when clicking on the Company Data Auditor

1. Ensure that your AccountEdge is fully updated by clicking AccountEdge Pro/NE (top left on toolbar) > Check for Product Updates. If there is an update pop up, go ahead & install it.

2. Perform a reinstall of AccountEdge: https://accountedge.helpjuice.com/general/uninstalling-and-reinstalling-accountedge?from_search=171565280

3. Open your user.reg file and make sure your support folder path is correctly input. Steps: Click Go (top mac toolbar) > Hold Option Key + Click on Library from the dropdown menu > Application Support > AccountEdge Pro/NE > Bottles > accountedge64 > Find the file called “user.reg” > right click on it > Open with TextEdit > Click Edit (top mac toolbar) > Find > Find.. > At the top search bar of TextEdit, paste "ASProductSpecificFolderPath" and hit Enter > It will bring you to a line where it should show this line of text > "ASProductSpecificFolderPath"="AccountEdge Pro" > This is incorrect > Make sure the path shows the following instead (you can copy and paste this):

"ASProductSpecificFolderPath"="C:\\users\\crossover\\Documents\\AccountEdge Pro"

For NE it would be the same except with NE at the very end: "ASProductSpecificFolderPath"="C:\\users\\crossover\\Documents\\AccountEdge NE
